News of the Shire First and foremost we would like to Thank Their Royal Highnesses, Prince Alaric and Princess Noelle, for their attendance at Winter Rose IV. We would also Like to thank Their Excellencies Baron Eric and Baroness Camilla for their attendance and continued support of our Incipient Shire, Many thanks to the Barony of the Flame for sponsoring Winter Rose IV.
The A&S competition was wonderful this year. There were several entries, all of which were spectacular. I'm sorry didn't take any pictures but hopefully someone will share if they took any. There were many wonderful comments made by our royalty and nobles who attended the event along with the populace on the talent that exists within our little shire. Entries from the Drakelaw populace included a hand-tooled leather breastplate (James), beautiful early period jewelry (Kelson), A leather book with embossed copper plates and scrolls (Vashti - winner of the populace vote), a book of lacework with extensive documentation (Cecilia - winner of the documentation competition). From our friends outside of Drakelaw a saux and hand-tooled leather scabbard with tooled copper edging from Sir Theo, an enameled metal belt from Lady Alex, a beautiful scroll from Lady Julianna, a silver cast crown and gold cast chain from His Excellency Master Sir Lothar and two entries from Thomasia - an early period recipe cookie in the shape of our own winter rose (which was delicious!) and a beautiful scroll. There were several classes held throughout the day from Ladies Raven, Vashti, Cecelia and Emeleth and Lord Thomas. Lord Kelson, Lady Aiden and Daniel (who is only 13 for those outside the shire who are reading this) merchanted their beautiful jewelry during the course of the day. At the dessert revel more of the talents of our shire were showcased with Ladies Branwyn, Mairin and Emeleth singing, Lady Vashti and her gypsy friends performing middle eastern dance and Lady Vashti regaling the crowd with her "You might be a Scadian redneck if..." jokes (through a cracking voice which was funnier still). Lord Thomas presented a leather thank you book (which he hand bound) and a thank you scroll which was designed and illuminated by Lady Raven to His and Her Excellencies Baron Erick and Baroness Camelia. Lady Vashti ran a bardic following our dessert revel - our first "Celtic Karaoke" which was a success. Dancing and drumming followed showcasing more of the musical talent in our little neck of the kingdom. I am very proud of our folks and very impressed with the work they submitted, displayed and shared. We were commended on how much our A&S has grown this past year. I encourage everyone to keep up the good work. As we pass into the winter months. I'm hopeful that everyone will continue to hone their A&S skills and learn new ones. We will work on scheduling some classes to be held at the library (or other site if the library is unavailable). If you are interested in teaching a class this winter, please let me know. In service, Lord Ian Blackoak
Winter Rose IV has been the most successful Winter Rose to Date. Friday saw the opening of the event, The weather was temperamental and forced this year's Torchlight Tourney indoors and into the now infamous EXIT LIGHT TOURNEY. The Unbelted Championship practice went well, although the weather tried to put a bit of a damper on it. Lord Malachi Hamilton won the Novice Tourney, his first tourney win!!! Hoobah to Malachi. More info to come soon...
